Communication Studies Graduate Student Will Receive Ohio Communication Association Award

School of Communication Studies graduate student Daniel Socha will be receiving the Ohio Communication Association (OCA) Distinguished Graduate Student Award.

Socha was nominated by communication studies professor and graduate coordinator, Nichole Egbert. In order to receive this award, award winners had to demonstrate academic and community service achievements and be a member of the OCA.

鈥淒aniel has done some exceptional things as a graduate student, including participating in the International Immersion Program at Sichuan University and completing a Pulitzer Fellowship on Crisis Reporting in the Democratic Republic of Congo,鈥 Egbert said. 鈥淎ll of these accomplishments are outstanding, and I wanted to recognize his achievements by nominating him for this award.鈥

This prestigious award is only given to one winner amongst the numerous nominees each year. Other awards OCA offers include the OCA Distinguished Teacher, Distinguished Coach and Distinguished Undergraduate Student awards.

鈥淲inning this award means a great deal. Being supported by organizations such as the OCA and various faculty members inspires me to continue to pursue research and become the best scholar I can be,鈥 Socha said.

Socha will be presented with the award at the Ohio Communication Association 80th Annual Conference on Friday, Oct. 14 at Ashland University. The conference鈥檚 theme this year is 鈥淪trong Roots- Branches of Communication.鈥
