Student Media has achieved a major milestone this semester: Kent State Television (KSTV) is now streaming live in the Kent Student Center, showcasing the incredible work of Kent State鈥檚 student creators to a broader campus audience.
This initiative began in Fall 2024 with a vision spearheaded by former Production and Film Distribution Director, Sophia Sainato, who graduated in Spring 2025. Sophia鈥檚 efforts, combined with the dedication of Studio Advisor JoAnn Larsen, CCI Broadcast Engineering and Facilities Director Jason Forbes, and Center for Student Involvement Executive Director Ben Davis, made this achievement possible.
Amplifying Student Voices
KSTV鈥檚 programming features the full range of Student Media broadcast content, including original shows produced by KSTV student teams, as well as Digital Media Productions student film projects. This expanded visibility represents an exciting step forward in Student Media鈥檚 mission to connect students with stories created by their peers.
What鈥檚 Next for KSTV
With this success, Student Media is already looking ahead to the next phase. Current Production and Film Distribution Director, Devin Gallagher, is leading efforts to establish a dedicated production studio within his team to create in-house advertising and promotional spots for all Student Media outlets.
In addition, the KSTV team is working on implementing a closed captioning system to make Student Media content more accessible to the entire Kent State community.
These projects represent a continued investment in both innovation and engagement, ensuring that Student Media remains at the forefront of storytelling on campus.
KSTV鈥檚 presence in the Student Center marks an exciting new chapter for Student Media, one where the work of Kent State students is front and center, reaching more eyes, inspiring more creators, and inviting more students to watch, listen, and get involved.
