Kent State University fans who could not make it to California for the big dance had their own party with Hoopin’ at the Hub. The watch party at the Kent State Student Center Hub on March 17 celebrated Kent State’s Mid-American Conference Champions men’s basketball team. Students and Kent State community members cheered on the Golden Flashes as they took on the UCLA Bruins in the first round of the NCAA tournament. For Emily Grubb, all it took was looking through a magazine to decide where to go to college. A high school friend shared a copy of Fusion magazine, Kent State University’s first lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) magazine, which led Grubb to the university. Kent State University at Trumbull sophomore Jessie Narkum is co-directing performances of The Little Mermaid Jr. on April 7 and 8, at Hubbard High School Auditorium. This isn’t the typical student-directed play. Narkum, an American Sign Language (ASL) major, is working with Hubbard High School ASL teacher Richard Magazzine to produce the play entirely in ASL. Audio translations will be available for the hearing audience.   Narkum says it is important to connect her passion to her education. “I have friends who are deaf, so bridging communication has become my purpose,” Narkum says. ...

The Kent State University Ice Arena hosted the 35th Annual Ohio Special Olympics Winter Games the first week of February for figure skaters and speed skaters from all over the state.
