Promotions

Depending on your role and job classification, there are different processes in place to initiate a promotion.

Unclassified Employees

Promotions for unclassified employees are initiated by the department with approval from the unit leader (e.g., Dean, Vice President, etc.) This occurs when the position鈥檚 job duties change significantly due to higher-level responsibilities. 

Classified Employees

Promotions for classified employees can be initiated by the employee via the Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ). The Office of Compensation will conduct a job audit of the position through the PDQ process. The review may result in no change in classification, a lateral reclassification with the same pay grade, or a higher-level reclassification that would be considered a promotion.
