The fatigue and lack of motivation to pursue daily work and school activities caused by challenging environments, known as burnout, increased with the pandemic. But even now, students, staff and faculty deal with pressures that sometimes feel hard to handle.
Angela Neal-Barnett, Ph.D., professor of psychology in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University, discussed what burnout is and gave a few tips on how to identify and deal with burnout on WBURâs âHere and Nowâ radio program.
âIt can be things like youâre just sitting in your office, and you look up and an hour has passed, and youâve done nothing,â Neal-Barnett said on WBUR. âJust dread, anxiety, all those types of things are symptoms that you are burned out.â
During her conversation, she explained the difference between depression and burnout and gave a few tips on how to deal with burnout that can apply to everyone in the Kent State community.
Neal-Barnett is a national award-winning psychologist, director of the Program for Research on Anxiety Disorders among African Americans at Kent State, and the author of âSoothe Your Nerves: The Black Womenâs Guide to Understanding and Overcoming Anxiety, Panic, and Fear.â
