Kent State Receives Tree Campus USA Recognition for Eighth Consecutive Year

Kent State University has earned its eighth consecutive recognition from Tree Campus USA, a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals. Heather White, grounds manager at University Facilities Management at Kent State, says the grounds department is proud of the continued recognition, as it shows the university鈥檚 dedication to the community鈥檚 green infrastructure.

The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) and Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USC) have awarded Kent State University a $50,000 micro-grant to help remove the financial barrier to graduation that low-income students may face as they near graduation.

Kent State Student Creates Care Packages for the Homeless

When the concept of homelessness comes to mind, people tend to focus efforts on food donations, but Ashley Flowers, a junior majoring in psychology and criminology and justice studies at Kent State University, wants to remind people that clothing and toiletries also are essential items. A native of Maple Heights, Ohio, Flowers is collecting money and putting together care packages filled with warm clothing and toiletries for those less fortunate in the Cleveland and Kent areas.

Kent State Alumni Association to Present Faculty Lecture Series

Community members as well as Kent State University faculty, staff, alumni and students are all invited to attend the Faculty Lecture Series, hosted by the Kent State Alumni Association, from March 30 through May 3. Free and open to the public, the events span disciplines from all eight Kent State campuses. Marquita Rodgers, program coordinator of alumni relations at Kent State, says the Faculty Lecture Series was created in 2013 to showcase the interests, research and academic talents of the university鈥檚 faculty. 

Kent State's Wick Poetry Center to Expand Traveling Stanzas Project With $125,000 in New Funding From Knight Foundation

The Wick Poetry Center at Kent State University will expand its successful Traveling Stanzas project with $125,000 in new funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, as part of its Knight Arts Challenge. The Knight Arts Challenge funds ideas that engage and enrich Akron through the arts.    Traveling Stanzas: Writing Across Borders is a partnership between the Wick Poetry Center and the Visual Communication Design program at Kent State to facilitate a global conversation through the intimate and inclusive voice of poetry.

Spring 2016 Bowman Breakfast Will Continue Discussion on Local and Global Impact of Kent Businesses

The spring 2016 Bowman Breakfast will take place at Kent State University in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on Wednesday, March 30. Doors open at 7 a.m., breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program will follow at 8 a.m. The topic for the event is 鈥淜ent Businesses 鈥 Their Local and Global Impact 3.0.鈥 The featured speakers are Brad Bass, plant manager at Land O鈥橪akes 鈥 Kent Superspreads; Alex Feil, president of Schneller; and Howard Fleischmann, president of Euclid Vidaro Manufacturing Company. David Ruller, Kent鈥檚 city manager, will serve as facilitator. 

In observance of Veterans Day, Kent State University will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

Kent State to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

Kent State University鈥檚 annual Veterans Day observance will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university鈥檚 Army and Air Force ROTC programs.

Kent State University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

Kent State Board of Trustees Welcomes Class of 2029, Congratulates University for Strong Enrollment

The Kent State University Board of Trustees welcomed the Class of 2029 during its regular quarterly meeting held Sept. 17 in the Kent Student Center. The Board congratulated the university administration for this year鈥檚 strong enrollment.  

Kent State Board of Trustees Approves Establishing Aeronautics and Engineering Schools

The Kent State University Board of Trustees approved the establishment of two new schools 鈥 the School of Aeronautics and the School of Engineering 鈥 within the College of Aeronautics and Engineering during the Board鈥檚 regular quarterly meeting held June 25, 2025, on the Kent Campus.

The Kent State University Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, in the Timothy D. Eippert Boardroom, Suite 412, at Crawford Hall on the Kent Campus. 

Kent State University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university鈥檚 Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the Kent State Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America鈥檚 veterans. A special invitation is extended to Kent State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Kent Student Center Kiva.
