Glauser School of Music at Kent State University, will present a series of master classes and recitals from July 19-26 on the university’s campus and culminate with the July 26 gala concert at Severance Hall’s Reinberger Chamber Hall in Cleveland. Physical therapy is usually a component of treatment for patients of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative and motor system disorders. Now, a Kent State University professor in the College of Education, Health and Human Services has designed a piece of equipment that serves that purpose and sets the bar for exercise therapy higher. Angela Ridgel, Ph.D., an associate professor of exercise science and an avid cyclist, has designed a bicycle specially tailored to Parkinson’s patients. Kent State University’s Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Todd Diacon has announced that David Dees, Ph.D., has been appointed interim dean and chief administrative officer of the Kent State University Columbiana County campuses, effective July 1, 2016. Dees will provide overall leadership of Kent State University at East Liverpool and Kent State University at Salem, two of the Regional Campuses in the university’s eight-campus system. The State of Ohio and the Department of Higher Education awarded Kent State University a $510,000 Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills grant. The award is part of a pilot program to bring together business and education partners to fill the growing need for qualified workers in the healthcare industry – specifically, in the areas of telemedicine and additive manufacturing or 3D printing. Beginning Tuesday, July 5, two-way traffic will resume in the construction area from East Campus Center Drive to Whitehall Boulevard. That section of roadway had been reduced to one-way, eastbound traffic since early March as part of the Summit Street: Building a Better Way Improvement Project.
